Fine Art students learn the fundamental elements of art through drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, art history and more.

Art 10

Prerequisite: None

Art 10 intends to introduce students to the fundamental elements of art through drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and art history. Students explore a variety of media, techniques and subject matter.

This is a project-based course involving hands-on work. There is a course fee for this program. 

Art 20

Prerequisite: 65% in Art 10 

5 Credits

Art 20 intends to broaden students' understanding of the elements of art, and introduces the principles of design in combined approaches. Areas of study may include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and art history. Students will further their understanding of media, development of techniques and exploration of subject matter.

This is a project-based course involving hands-on work. There is a course fee for this program. 

Art 30

Prerequisite: 65% in Art 20

5 Credits

Art 30 intends to apply students' understanding of the elements of art and principles of design, techniques, media and subject matter. Students will explore personal areas of interest in drawing, painting and SCAMPER (an acronym representing seven creative jumping points, interpreted in their choice of media).

This is a project-based course involving hands-on work. There is a course fee for this program. 

Portfolio Art 35

Prerequisite: 80% in Art 30

5 Credits

Portfolio Art 35 is intended for students who want to develop a portfolio of their most recent work for entrance to a post-secondary institution or for personal use. For post-secondary applicants, it is recommended that students take Portfolio Art 35 in the first semester, as entrance deadlines for submission start in late winter (institution-specific). If developing a portfolio for personal use, you may enrol in either semester.

This is a project-based course. There is a course fee for this program.

Special Projects in Art (10/20/30)

Prerequisite: 80% in Art 30/35 and/or consent of the instructor

5 Credits

Special Projects in Art offers further study in the art stream after Art 30/35 is complete. Through a series of steps, students design self-directed projects that challenge their skills and knowledge in art. They must complete a minimum of five in-depth projects and an analysis of their process and outcome for each project to receive 5 credits.
